Description

Rhymes can be categorized based off of sound and spelling. Understanding the different categories can widen the word selection and recognition of both writers and readers both in the large structure and the small details of a poem.

Slant Rhyme Assonance/Consonance. Recurring vowel or consonant sounds, respectively. Assonance: kiln/film, porous/orange
Consonance: crack/crevice, little/ladder.
Eye Rhyme Words that look similar, but sound different. amend/fiend, pear/appear
Rich Rhyme Phonetically identical words. shoot/chute, he leaves/eat leaves
